Bisi Silva Portrait

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Bisi Silva, independent curator, founder and artistic director of the CCA, Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos (Nigeria), and friend and an adviser to the Prince Claus Fund. She will be greatly missed.

Bisi Silva was an independent curator and founder and artistic director of the CCA, Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos (Nigeria). She was the Artistic Director of the 10th Bamako Encounters: African Biennial of Photography, Mali. During her career she has curated and co-curated various exhibitions such as the 2nd Thessaloniki Biennial in Greece in 2009, and the 7th Dakar Biennial in Senegal in 2006. In 2013 she was a member of the international jury for the 55th Venice Biennial.  She advised the Prince Claus Fund for many years. In 2016 she curated the exhibition El Anatsui: Meyina at the Prince Claus Fund Gallery as part of the Fund’s 20th Anniversary.  She also wrote for international art magazines and journals including Agufon, Artforum, Art Monthly, Metropolis M, Untitled, and Third Text, and she is in the editorial/advisory board of N. Paradoxa, international journal of feminist art.

Our thoughts are with her friends and family.
