Programmes

The Prince Claus Fund supports artists, cultural organisations and critical thinkers in spaces where freedom of expression is restricted by conflict, poverty, repression, marginalisation or taboos. Since 1996, the Fund has supported more than 2500 cultural initiatives, granted Prince Claus Awards to 184 outstanding cultural achievers and provided first aid to cultural heritage in over 160 emergency situations.

Maung Thura (Zarganar)

On 27 March HE Ambassador Joan Boer presented the 2012 Prince Claus Award to Zarganar during a historic Anyeint performance by Zarganar in the People's Square in Yangon. The exciting theatrical performance lasted 5 and a half jours and was attended by an estimated 5000 people. It was the biggest public performance ever to take place in Burma

Prince Claus Awards

The Prince Claus Awards honour outstanding achievements in the field of culture and development. The awards are presented annually to eleven individuals or organisations whose cultural actions have a positive impact on the development of their societies.

cultural emergency response

The Cultural Emergency Response (CER) programme provides first arid to cultural heritage damaged man-made disaster, natural disaster or conflict. By taking immediate action, CER aims to prevent further damage and implement basic repairs. CER believes that rescuing cultural heritage helps affected communities reaffirm their sense of identity, community and human dignity.
