Vincent Carelli Receives Prince Claus Award in Brazil
On 17 April the Prince Claus Award was presented to Brazilian documentary filmmaker and activist Vincent Carelli. The Dutch Consul-General Dr. Cor van Honk presented the Award at the Sesc Vila Mariana in São Paulo, Brazil.
Vincent Carelli is a documentary filmmaker and activist for indigenous rights. In 1986 he founded a collaborative production centre, Video in the Villages (Vídeo nas Aldeias). VNA supplies indigenous schools with videos in their own languages. By initiating a creative way for indigenous peoples to document their own cultures, Vincent Carelli has found an effective means to counter prejudice and promote peaceful interethnic relations.
The Consul-General spoke of the importance of Carelli’s work, stating: “Carelli's work offers Brazilians the true information about the Indigenous people. And his work is of fundamental importance for the development of a more just society.”
Congratulations Vincent! And our sincere thanks to the Dutch consulate and embassy for making this event possible.
