Vacancy: Manager of Fundraising and Communication

The Prince Claus Fund supports, connects and celebrates artists and cultural practitioners working under pressure in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe. Starting from 2021, the Fund has formulated a new strategy to take it into the future. Part of this strategy consists of bringing together the fundraising and communication teams of the Fund.

To manage this newly established Fundraising and Communication team, we have created the following new position:

Manager of Fundraising & Communication (36hrs per week)

The Fundraising and Communication department focuses on:

  • Fundraising for the strategic cycles with an average of 2 mil. euro per year;
  • Aligning the communication messaging to best serve the fundraising purposes of the Fund.

More practically this means that the manager will have an overall view and guide the team:

in fundraising:

  • to further develop and implement the new fundraising strategy;
  • to develop strategic implementation plans for the different fundraising targets of the Fund, which include institutional, private and in-kind donations;
  • to identify, develop and coordinate different fundraising activities such as collaborations, tenders and activities linked to private donations;
  • to assist the Fund in preparing government and foundation tenders that can secure strategic funding as the most important source of income in the future;
  • to ensure that different stakeholders, both internal and external, receive clear and appropriate information
  • to develop and maintain annual KPIs.

in communications:

  • to develop and implement communications for the new strategy which specifies that 80% of communication efforts support fundraising;;
  • to define and address target audiences, in order to support newly established fundraising priorities
  • to develop and implement efficient communications over all communication channels, including owned, earned and paid media;
  • to develop and maintain annual KPIs.

In addition to managing the current Fundraising and Communications team of 3, the Fundraising and Communications manager is a member of the Fund’s Management Team, reporting directly to the Director. Responsibilities on the Management Team include:

  • Monitoring internal and external developments in fundraising and communications nationally and globally
  • Serving as a main source of information and expertise for the Director and Management Team and the Fund as a whole about fundraising and communications and latest developments in the field
  • Thinking strategically about fundraising and communications in the broader context, scope and objectives of the Fund;
  • Participating in the formulation and initiation of policy that is based on a deep understanding of the context of the Fund, specifically as it relates to fundraising and communication. (Final responsibility for policy remains with the director);
  • Assessing what expertise is available or missing at the Fund in relation to fundraising and communication;
  • Ensuring the proper implementation of choices in fundraising and communications
  • Finding, developing and maintaining strategic relationships in line with the fundraising and communication strategies;
  • Coordinating with all other teams of the Fund to communicate, facilitate and co-design activities
  • Contributing to the maintenance of an efficient and professional organisation;
  • Managing an assigned yearly budget that will lead to an increase in fundraising income;
  • Representing the Fund externally

Profile - To manage the Fundraising and Communication team we are looking for a person who:

  • Has completed HBO+/WO with over 10 years experience in the fields of fundraising and communication, preferably in the international cultural sector,
  • Has a demonstrated ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Has an affinity with the Prince Claus Fund’s work and is able to adapt to the diverse cultural contexts that are inherent to the Fund’s work and stakeholders;
  • Has a proven track record in institutional fundraising;
  • Is able to lead and steer others while being hands on and willing to do part of the work him/herself;
  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills, is able to convince and persuade others but is also able to listen in a professional and respectful manner;
  • Is able to plan and organise in an efficient manner by setting and communicating clear goals, priorities, timeline and division of responsibilities;
  • Is result-oriented while remaining flexible enough to respond to contextual developments and needs;
  • Is a strategic and conceptual thinker, able to develop a clear plan of how to achieve set goals and respond to identified needs in the medium and long-term;
  • Preferably has a track record working with sensitivities within the cultural sector globally;
  • Has an entrepreneurial, can-do, professional approach and personality;
  • Excellent spoken and written fluency in Dutch and English (other languages are a plus).

We offer a challenging and rewarding position on an international level, working with a creative, dedicated team within a dynamic organisation. Compensation depends on experience within the salary scale H ranging between 3.305 euros – 4.805 euros/month.
