Building Beyond FAQ

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING MY APPLICATION FOR THE BUILDING BEYOND MENTORSHIP?

The deadline for applications is 14 May 2024 at 17:00 CEST. We understand that some people have intermittent access to the internet, or unstable connections, but please keep this in mind when planning your submission. We encourage you not to wait until the last day with submitting as our online system will close automatically on the deadline and we cannot accept any applications after that point.

THE COUNTRY WHERE I AM FROM IS NOT LISTED ON THE ELIGIBILITY COUNTRY LIST. CAN I STILL APPLY?

No. To be eligible, an individual must come from, and be living and working  in Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, Tanzania, Tunisia, South Africa, or South-Sudan.

WHAT DISCIPLINES DOES THE PRINCE CLAUS FUND SUPPORT?

We hold a very broad view definition of art and culture related practices. To be eligible for this call you can be an emerging artist, designer, or creative whose practice relates to design, public space, architecture, activism, policy, and the digital space, or anything in between these.

CAN I SEE WHAT THE APPLICATION FORM LOOKS LIKE BEFORE SUBMITTING ONE?

Yes. You can create an account/log-in to our Prince Claus Awards Platform and see all of the steps of the application form before filling it out and submitting your application. Once you begin filling out the form, you can save it at any point and return to complete it later. Please note that once you have submitted the application, you will not be able to make amendments to it.

WHAT IS A GOOD PITCH? WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE IN MY PITCH?

A pitch is a presentation where you introduce yourself, your work and most importantly, present your motivation to joining this mentorship programme. You can submit your pitch in either audio or video format. Be creative! The pitch is a valuable opportunity for us to learn more about you. You have the option to discuss aspects of your work or personal experiences that you feel are important but have not yet been addressed in this application.

WHAT IS A REFERENCE?

A reference is the name and contact details of a person who knows your work and/or has worked with you in the past and can recommend your work. We will be contacting the references of shortlisted applicants.

WHAT ARE SUPPORTING MATERIALS?

Supporting materials refer to any information about you and/or your work that have not been shared within the application form but are still important for consideration during the assessment phase. These could include, but are not limited to: samples of your previous or current work (images, videos, texts, etc.), reviews, interviews, extra references, or any links to social media or YouTube that you would like to share.

HOW CAN I TELL IF I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY SUBMITTED MY APPLICATION?

You will receive an email confirmation within 10 minutes after you submit your application. If you have not received one, please make sure that the application is completed and that it was submitted. On the Prince Claus Awards Platform you can check the status of your application under ‘my submissions’. A completed application should read ‘submitted’ rather than ‘in progress’.

WHEN WILL I HEAR ABOUT THE FINAL DECISION ON MY APPLICATION?

All applicants will be notified on the outcome of their application by the Prince Claus Fund by end of October 2024 at the very latest.

AM I ELIGIBLE TO APPLY AGAIN NEXT YEAR IF MY APPLICATION WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL THIS TIME?

Yes. You are always welcome to apply this next year if your application was not successful in our last call for applications.

CAN I RECEIVE INDIVIDUAL FEEDBACK ON MY APPLICATION?

Due to the high number of applications that we receive, we are not able to provide personalised feedback to individuals. The Prince Claus Fund will provide all non-successful applicants with a general report on the most common reasons for rejecting applications we have received, and we will share major points for improving applications in the future.
