Sara Kontar Mentorship Awards recipient

Sara Kontar is a Syrian artist and photographer from Swaida based in France. Having fled from Syria in search of safety, Kontar eventually established herself in Paris where she enrolled at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs to major in in Animation Cinema. She is now pursuing a master's degree at the same institution. As she has never had the chance to capture images of her own home, Kontar looks for ways to create belonging and materialize the absurd experience of exile through photography. In 2021 she founded a project called EyesFromSyria to share and encourage the work of photographers and storytellers from her home country.
