Dutch Postcode Lottery's Goed Geld Gala 2017

On 6 February 2017, the Dutch Postcode Lottery announced it will donate 341 million euros to charitable causes. The Prince Claus Fund was among the 110 non-profit organizations present and received an amount of 500,000 euros for supporting culture in spaces where resources are limited and cultural heritage is threatened.

In addition to the Prince Claus Fund, other supported organisations include UNICEF, WWF (Wereld Natuur Fonds), Amnesty International, Natuurmonumenten, and Doctors without Borders. Among them, Leprastichting’s mission for a world free of leprosy received the amount of 9.3 million euros through the Dream Fund. The Lottery also announced the coalition between Hivos and Greenpeace as recipient of 14.8 million euros for their battle, together with residents of the Amazon, against extensive deforestation.

The allocations were announced during the Goed Geld Gala at Amsterdam’s Royal Theater Carré. Former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, an international goodwill ambassador of the United Postcode Lotteries, made a surprise guest appearance, and spoke on behalf of the Clinton Foundation about concrete steps to tackling climate change. Mr Clinton stated that the importance of the Postcode Lottery lies in the fact that it is “incredibly empowering for ordinary people”, while his speech also emphasized the importance of mutual understanding, acceptance and cooperation between people of diverse backgrounds. The keynote speaker ecologist and filmmaker John D. Liu spoke on the importance of biodiversity and ecological restoration.

The 500,000 euros that the Prince Claus Fund received during the gala will enable the Fund to continue to support freedom of cultural expression around the world.

The Prince Claus Fund would like to thank the Dutch Postcode Lottery and its 2.8 million participants, without whom our work would not be possible.

The Fund also extends its congratulations to the 110 beneficiaries doing non-profit work with a purpose around the world!

The Postcode Lottery is the third largest private charity donor in the world with half of each purchased lottery ticket going to charity. To learn more about Postcode Lottery click here.
