Michelle Parlevliet has been working on the nexus of human rights, conflict transformation, justice, and peacebuilding for nearly 20 years. She currently works as a freelance consultant and is affiliated with the University of Amsterdam (Faculty of Law) to complete a dissertation that draws on her practical experiences. Between 1995 and 2010 she served, amongst other things, as senior conflict transformation adviser in Nepal for the Danish Foreign Ministry, and also worked for the Centre for Conflict Resolution (Cape Town), the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and the Prosecutor's Office of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. She has conducted facilitation, training, research, and technical assistance for various civil society organisations in Southern and East Africa, Western Europe, and South Asia, as well as the United Nations and the World Bank. She serves on the board of trustees of Conciliation Resources (a UK-based international peacebuilding NGO working on a long-term basis in various countries) and is also a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Human Rights Practice. She holds an MA in Political Science (Univ. of Amsterdam) and a MA in International Peace Studies (Univ. of Notre Dame) and has published extensively on human rights and peacebuilding, transitional justice, and conflict prevention.
