2017 Prince Claus Awards Ceremony at the Royal Palace Amsterdam

On 6 December, the 2017 Prince Claus Awards ceremony will take place in the presence of their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima and their Royal Highnesses Princess Beatrix, Princess Mabel and Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands at the Royal Palace Amsterdam.

Honorary Chairman of the Prince Claus Fund HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands will present the Principal Prince Claus Award jointly to filmmaker and indigenous activist, Vincent Carelli (Brazil) and new media designer and environmentalist Ma Jun (China).

This year the Principal Prince Claus Award is presented to two laureates whose outstanding individual work has wide influence on vast populations on opposite sides of the world. They use different media and methods in different disciplines but in the words of the Prince Claus Awards Committee, “both highlight the urgent struggle to protect people’s lives and the environment against unjust and unsustainable exploitation…they emphasise the importance of people’s voices and demonstrate the fundamental need for transparent, accurate and accessible information.”

HRH Prince Constantijn will also present 2017 Prince Claus Awards to documentary filmmaker Khadija Al-Salami (Yemen), public art association L’Art Rue (Tunisia), scientist and environmentalist Brigitte Baptiste (Colombia), visual artist Amar Kanwar (India) and architect Diébédo Francis Kéré. (Burkina Faso). All Prince Claus Awards are in recognition of outstanding achievement in the fields of culture and development. More information about the Laureates here.
