Saving Face wins Oscar
The documentary Saving Face by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Daniel Junge won a 2012 Oscar. The Prince Claus Fund presents the international premiere of the extended version of Saving Face on 26 March during the Movies that Matter Festival. After the screening there is a Q&A with both filmmakers, led by Christa Meindersma – director of the Prince Claus Fund. Please note that the registration for this event is closed. There are no more seats available.
Saving Face was awarded with an Oscar in the category 'Best Documentary, Short subject'. As the first Pakistani woman to receive an Oscar, Obaid-Chinoy said during her acceptance speech: 'All the women in Pakistan working for change, don't give up on your dreams, this is for you'.
The Prince Claus Fund supported Obaid-Chinoy on several occasions, for example the 2009 Shanaakt Festival, organised by the Citizens Archive of Pakistan (co-founded by Obaid-Chinoy). Besides that, she was one the guests in the 2011 Talkshow 'Who Needs Beauty' of the Prince Claus Fund and talked about the creation of Saving Face, stating: 'I don’t think I would make documentary films, if I didn’t feel that I could affect some sort of change'.
