Marc Schmitz studied Philosophy and Fine Art at the Universities of Hannover, Munich and Berlin. He currently works as visual artist based in Berlin and Ulaanbaatar.His pieces have been exhibited internationally at multiple institutions and awarded several times. In 2010 he founded the Biennial Land Art Mongolia (LAM 360°), where he now serves as artistic director. Through the Mongolian organisation he engages with relevant issues such as sustainability, traditional values in a nomadic culture, ecological decentralization and democracy. He regards contemporary art, and specifically land art, as an impulse generator for civil society in Mongolia.
