About the Prince Claus Fund and the El Anatsui Exhibit

The Prince Claus Fund recognizes, supports and protects culture around the world. The Fund actively looks for cultural collaborations based on equality and trust with excellent partners in areas where means and opportunities for cultural expression are limited and where cultural heritage is under threat.

An exhibition of works by El Anatsui (Ghana, 1944), one of the most influential contemporary artists working today, is currently on view at the Prince Claus Fund Gallery in Amsterdam. El Anatsui’s huge, shimmering wall tapestries made from bottle caps are admired by viewers all around the world. He has received wide-spread acclaim, including a lifetime achievement award at the 2015 Venice Biennale and the 2009 Prince Claus Award. His works are part of the collections of a number of major museums worldwide.

The El Anatsui exhibition opened to the public on 24 November as part of Amsterdam Art Week. It is free of charge, open weekdays from 9 to 5 as part of the Prince Claus Fund’s 20th anniversary celebrations. It will continue through 28 April 2017.

The exhibit was organised by Bisi Silva, an independent curator and founding director of the Centre for Contemporary Art in Lagos, Nigeria.
