limits and frontiers of globalization, art project in Santiago

In December 2011 the Prince Claus Fund received the catalogue that finishes the supported project Wall, Limits and Boundaries. The project is organised Galería Metropolitana, a unique art space in Santiago (Chile) that is founded and directed by Luis Alarcón and Ana María Saavedra in 1998. The organisation distinguishes itself by its location, construction, theoretical programming, and exhibition practice. Galería Metropolitana is part of a larger artistic community and its ongoing exhibition programming has gained remarkable importance amongst critics. On the other hand the directors are occupied with outreach in the neighbourhood and try to connect the local residents to diverse artistic events.

With a series of exhibitions from national and international artists in the gallery, as well as meetings and dialogue, the project seeks to produce a collective dialogue between artists, gallery owners, curators, critics, and neighbours about the limits and frontiers of globalization and later about the limits and frontiers in contemporary art. Part of Wall, Limits and Boundaries is the publication of a catalogue that covers the activities of the gallery from 2004-2010.

The Prince Claus Fund supported the project for its impact on and promotion of art in the local community. Furthermore the support of the Fund helps Galería Metropolitana, which does not have a stable income, to survive.

You can find the catalogue in the documentation centre in the office of the Prince Claus Fund (opening hours: Monday-Friday 10.00 – 17.00). For more information about Galería Metropolitana, click here
