Today we received the news that the 2002 Prince Claus Fund laureate Ali Ferzat was found severely beaten on the airport road in Damascus, Syria. The 2002 jury report describes the reason why Ali Ferzat was granted with the Prince Claus Award. Although the cartoons of Ali Ferzat above all address local issues, their visual vocabulary makes them universally appealing and relevant.
