The Freedom Theatre

The Freedom Theatre

is a cultural centre developing a vibrant artistic community to empower its residents and explore the potential of the arts as a catalyst for social change. The theatre was co-founded in 2006 by Juliano Mer Khamis, a visionary who championed non-violence, free expression and the arts as a means of resistance in Jenin. In 2011, Juliano was brutally murdered outside The Freedom Theatre by an unknown assailant. In the wake of this tragedy, The Freedom Theatre has persevered, continuing Juliano’s legacy in Jenin refugee camp and by building partnerships internationally. www.thefreedomtheatre.org/

“My dream is that The Freedom Theatre will be the major force cooperating with others in generating a cultural resistance, carrying on its shoulders universal values of freedom of justice” - The Freedom Theatre co-founder Juliano Mer Khamis (1958-2011)
