Etienne Minounou is director of Compagnie Falinga Compagnie Falinga, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso Compagnie Falinga was set up in 2000 in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, by the actor, play writer and theatre director Etienne Minoungou. The essential idea behind Company Falinga is that it keeps the traditional aesthetic values as a base while opening up to contemporary and experimental forms of theatre. Compagnie Falinga achieves this goal by focusing on three essential axes: creation, training and research. The core of the Company’s artistic research concerns the theme of oral tradition, an essential element in the African culture. Since its creation in 2000, Company Falinga, has offered contemporary theatrical creations with “La République danse” (2001) and “Madame je vous aime” (2002), while exploring the classical repertoire with pieces as “Richard III” (2004) from William Shakespeare. The main activity of the Company is the Récréâtrales (created in 2002), which is the only existing platform in Africa for professional African theatre artists to meet, train and present. The Company Falinga has through its creations and projects become one of the most important actors in the theatre domain of Burkina Faso. It has created a network of artistic partners in over twenty countries in Africa. Through this network, the company has decided to put in place in 2007 a think tank on culture in Africa, named the African Coalition for Culture, whereby artists and intellectuals from the continent reflect on the policies of culture. Period Compagnie Falinga, Network Partner from the 1st of October 2008 till the 30th of September 2011. Compagnie Falinga receives the amount of 180.000 Euros for this period of three years.
