Rio de Janeiro ~ Brazil
Consuelo Bassanesi was born in Brazil, but she lived in London for nearly a decade where she was involved in several art initiatives such as a pop up gallery project that used unusual and derelict buildings as exhibition spaces (Galeria Progresso). Since January 2013 she has been co-director of Largo das Artes, an independent arts centre with studios, gallery, courses and a residency programme. In 2015 she became founding member and artistic director of Despina, a non-profit cultural association that runs a residency programme and other projects under development at Largo das Artes. Consuelo works to ensure the organisation’s sustainability through special projects, visibility and partnerships and to promote artistic and political development in Latin American countries.
